The content of the program has not been finalized yet, but international office at the University of Tokyo will start to announce call for participation in summer program in mid-April through the website, when you can get the whole information including schedule, concrete activities, lodging, transportation, and participation fee. Two credits will be offered to those who participate in the program. The topics in the program will include (1)Historical Perspectives of Hong Kong , (2) Japanese Businesses in Hong Kong, and (3) Hong Kong in a Global Context. Participants in the program will form groups, each of which will make presentation on its research findings on the last day of the program. In order to survive in changing economic conditions, they have to seek for potential market. Needless to say, China, which has more than 1.3 billion population, has attracted a lot of foreign investment and still enjoys relatively rapid economic growth. Thus it is understandable why so many Japanese companies are now doing business in China. University of Tokyo will start a new type of joint summer program with Peking University under a “strategic partnership” to encourage students of both universities to study together in an international and multicultural environment. In this program, 12 students from both universities will listen to the same (possibly three) lectures and participate in the same field trips to understand what sort of difficulties Japanese companies are facing and how they are trying to overcome such difficulties. On the last day of the program, students will make a presentation in front of business people in Beijing. The schedule below is still tentative. Mid-April to End of June Call for participation in the summer program by Division of International Affairs at the University of Tokyo 2nd of July Kick-off meeting at the University of Tokyo (Detail will be announced to the participants directly) Before 19th of August Departure for Beijing 20th to 31st of August Participation in the summer program 1st of September or later Departure from Beijing (6) 一歩先の調査研究へ：計画からプレゼンテーションまで（早稲田大学文学研究科「社会学特論１・２」／通年） すぐれた社会学的研究を展開していくには、いろいろな条件をクリアしなければならない。先行研究を理論的・経験的に批判・検討することで、どのように実行可能で魅力的なリサーチクエスチョンを立てたらよいか。入手可能な二次データを使わず、あえて調査を実施するとすれば、どのような意味で必要とされる調査なのか。調査費用を捻出するために各種財団から資金を得るにはどうしたらよいか。調査を実施するにあたって必要とされるスキルには、どのようなものがあるか。獲得した新しいデータをどのように吟味し、そこからどのような知見を得ることで、研究上の付加価値を増すことができるか。データを用いて論文を執筆し、（外国語で）口頭報告を行うにはどのような点に留意すべきか。調査過程で得られた疑問や困難から、どのように次の調査研究を作り上げるか。････調査研究では局面ごとに解決すべき問題が存在し、これをうまく解決していかないことには、よい研究はできない。逆に、こうした調査研究のマネジメントができるようになれば、独立した研究者として「一歩先の」調査研究を実施することができるようになる。この授業では、担当教員のさまざまな経験を教授し、参加学生がみずから実習をすることで、独立した研究者としてすぐれた社会学的研究を展開していくマネジメント能力を高めることを目的としている。 (7) グローバル化する中国への社会学的アプローチ（北海道大学文学部応用社会学「社会学特殊講義」／夏季集中） 現在でも、日中関係の改善の兆しが見えません。2010年の漁船衝突事故以来、尖閣列島をめぐる日中の対立が顕在化し、現在にいたっています。こうした状況にあって、中国及び日中関係を冷静に分析し、知識を深めることはきわめて重要です。中国理解に必要な基礎的な事項の習得は言うまでもなく、どのように中国の変化を捉えるか、世界的なプレゼンスを増す中国をどのように理解したらよいかといった、理論的、方法論的な学習も不可欠です。この授業では集中講義形式で行われます。毎日、異なる問いを設定し、これに対する回答を得るために必要な事実やデータを学習します。その際、講師が実施してきた各種プロジェクトやその具体的な発見をめぐって講義が展開します。授業参加者は、なぜこうした調査が必要なのか、なぜこのようなデータ解釈が可能なのかなど、イロイロと考えてもらいます。こうした作業を通じて、社会学的な思考方法や調査の仕方、データ解釈の深め方なども習得できれば、本授業を履修したことの目的は達成されます。 *************************************************************************************************************************** 2013 (1) アジア経済(春）「日中関係 アジア経済」（経済学研究科） http://web.iss.u-tokyo.ac.jp/kyoten/asnet/ (2)学際情報学国際共同演習Ⅰ（春）“Understanding China, South Korea, and Japan in Cultural Comparative Perspectives: Joint E-class with Peking University and Seoul National University” (GSII with Kang Myung-ku, Wang Yi-hong) Course Objectives: East Asia has been changing rapidly. Though China, South Korea, and Japan still have conflicts on territorial issues, historical issues, and military-security issues, three countries have been exposed to globalization, which facilitates a lot of political, economic, and cultural flows across East Asia. Common intellectual platform has been created recently. CAMPUS Asia, for example, which is a joint educational program among China, South Korea, and Japan has launched since last year. In this course, three professors from three countries, namely Prof. Kang Myungkoo of Seoul National University, Prof. Wang Yihong of Peking University and Prof. Sonoda Shigeto of the University of Tokyo, will approach different topics of culturally globalizing East Asia from different angles and different methodologies in comparative perspectives. The purposes of this course are (1) to understand the effective use of different methodologies, (2) to acquire the knowledge of history of cultural exchanges among three countries, and (3) to exchange ideas and opinions among the graduate students who are interested in the future of East Asia. Students in three universities will be requested to make presentation under the guidance of each university in Peking University, Seoul National University, and the University of Tokyo. Course Related URL https://sites.google.com/site/eamediastudies2013 (3)社会学特殊講義（通年）「国際関係論と社会学の間：第二次アジア学生調査の実施 Between International Relations and Sociology:Conducting Second Wave of Asian Student Survey」（文学部・人文社会系研究科） 授業の目標・概要 Course Objectives 社会学研究を取り巻く環境は、この10数年の間に急速に変化した。多くのデータベースが蓄積され、一次データを取らなくても十分意味ある知見を引き出すことができるようになった。海外での調査が比較的容易になり、国際的な共同研究、比較研究が多く行われるようになった。国際的な人の移動が活発化する中で、特定の研究者が自国の研究だけに従事していれば事足る状況は、変化しつつある。 本授業は、こうした時代認識を踏まえ、将来ある学生たちが、アジア諸大学との共同作業を通じて、自分たちの抱える特徴を、比較研究を通じて理解し、首尾よく説明することを目的とする。具体的には、2008年に実施されたアジア学生調査の第二波調査の設計・実施を通じ、国際関係論と社会学を結びつける作業を進めてみたい。 Environments surrounding sociological studies have drastically changed during over the decade. A variety of dataset has been accumulated which enabled young researchers to draw meaningful research findings without collecting first-hand data. Conducting fieldwork in foreign countries became easier and a lot of international collaborations and comparative studies have come to be launched by some researchers. Increase of international human mobility is making it difficult for sociologists just to look at their local societies to understand “society”. Based on such recognition, this course aims to encourage promising young students of sociology to know and explain their own traits through comparative analysis in collaboration with Asian universities. More concretely, the participants are expected to “connect” international relations and sociology by designing and conducting the Second Wave of Asia Student Survey which was launched first wave in 2008. 授業の方法 Teaching Methods 第１期は、教員の側の説明と学生からの提案、文献解釈が中心となる。 第２期は、既存データの分析と報告、質問票の最終案確定のための討論が中心となる。授業参加者には、SPSS（統計パッケージソフト）のライセンスを発行し、データ分析の訓練を行う。同時に、これをもとにした討論を行い、質問票案を確定する。この時期までに、本プロジェクトで利用できる資金のメドが明らかになるので、最終的なプロジェクト規模が確定する。 第３期からは、学際情報学府の学生が数名参加し、質問票の配布・回収、データ入力などの作業が始まる。資金規模によっては、海外での調査は調査機関に依頼することになるが、そうでない場合のデータ収集の方法などについても議論され、最終的なデータベースが構築される。 第４期には、複数の班に分かれてデータ分析を進める。そして、多分２月に開かれる可能性が高い発表会に備えた作業を行う。短いレポートとパワーポイントでの報告資料の作成がメインになる。 This course is designed for students to experience how international project is managed. Whenever necessary, the professor will guide and instruct the students, but students’ initiative is indispensable in this course. In the first stage, the professor explains about the project and the students will make a proposal for the questions to be included in the questionnaire with the citation of references. In the second stage, the students will make secondary analysis of the existing dataset and finalize the content of the questionnaire through intensive discussion. Those who will join the project will get the license of SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) for their analysis. It is in this stage that we can finalize the size of the project because we can get the information about the budget for this project. Some graduate students of GSII will join and the dataset will be created in the third stage. Professional research agencies will collect foreign data if the budget allows or when we cannot mobilize foreign partners. In the fourth stage, research groups in this course will write their report and prepare for the presentation in international workshop which will be probably held on February, 2014. (6) ITASIA301/302 “Introduction to Social Research” (GSII) Course Objectives: When you try to understand Asian societies and cultures, you have to use some method(s) of social survey to get data. There are some types of research, but which type(s) should be used? What do you have to keep in mind when you conduct a questionnaire survey in foreign countries? How should you manage your fieldwork in different cultures? In this course, the students are requested to learn the process of both qualitative and quantitative analysis of social survey through lectures and workshops. Both interview and computer work are compulsory in this class so that participants can have an overall picture of what should be done to collect and process the data necessary for their research in different cultures and write a good survey report. Those who write a good paper may be invited to Joint Workshop for Young Sociologists in Institute of Sociology, Academia Sinica, Taiwan Teaching Methods: Combination of lecture and workshop. At a time of lecture, some students will be assigned to present a summary of each chapter so that they can understand methodological issues smoothly. Students are strongly requested to take part in the class ardently. ***************************************************************************************************************************** 2012 (1)アジア経済(春）「日中関係 アジア経済」（経済学研究科） http://web.iss.u-tokyo.ac.jp/kyoten/asnet/ (2)全学自由研究ゼミナール(春)「現代中国の政治と社会」（駒場with 高原明生) 授業の目標・概要 中国が、世界的な注目を集めている。昨年2011年のヨーロッパ通貨危機の際に、多くのＥＵ諸国が中国の協力を期待し、中国もこれに応えた。同年開かれた東アジアサミットでは、南シナ海の管理をめぐって、アメリカやアセアン諸国が中国への警戒感を示し、激しい外交交渉が行われた。 注目は中国内部にも向かっている。拡大する格差が社会不安を生みだすのではないかという声も強い。台頭する中産階級が言論の自由を求めつつあり、これが民主化要求の勢力になっていくだろうとする予想もある。このように、中国の現在や未来をめぐっては、さまざまな視点が交錯し、評価も毀誉褒貶が共存する。 本ゼミナールでは、「政治（学）」と「社会（学）」からアプローチすることで現代中国を理解することを目標とする。参加学生は、統治機構や格差、ナショナリズム、日中関係など、毎週異なるテーマに取り組み、所定の本を読みこんだ上で報告・討論に参加することが求められる。こうして報告・討論を積み重ね、批判的な視点から議論を組み立てる方法を学んだ上で「10年後（2022年）の中国」を予想するレポートを執筆する。このように、多様な中国の現実を捉える方法を学ぶとともに、具体的なデータを用いて中国の政治や社会を理解する技術・理論を習得することを目標とする。 なお、レポート提出者全員に、10年後、再び本ゼミナールに集まってもらい、誰の予想がもっとも正しかったか、そしてそれはどうしてだったのかを検討する「10年後ゼミ」も計画している。大学を卒業した後も、担当教員との連絡を欠かさないでほしい。 授業の方法 初回と最終回を除き、各回報告者を立て、文献について報告をしてもらったうえで、参加者全員で討論を行う。こうした討論を通じて、参加者各人がレポートで取り上げるテーマを絞り込み、最終的なレポートに繋げるようにしたい。報告者以外も文献を読んできたことを前提に授業が進められる。報告者は30分程度でコンパクトに本の内容を紹介するとともに、議論すべき点を取り上げ、自分なりの意見を述べることが求められる。他方、報告を聞いている学生は、報告を批判的に聞き、「突っ込むべきところ」はしっかりと突っ込むことが求められる。担当教員はモデレーター役となるが、できるだけ担当教員が話をしなくてよいよう、参加者は毎回、それぞれ議論すべき「ネタ」を用意してくるように。 なお参加者や担当教員のスケジュールがあえば、レポート完成後に１泊、どこかで合宿を行って品評会を行うかもしれない。要相談である。 関連URL http://china10years.wiki.fc2.com/ (3)学際情報学国際共同演習Ⅰ（春）“Understanding China, South Korea, and Japan in Cultural Comparative Perspectives: Joint E-class with Peking University and Seoul National University” (GSII with Kang Myung-ku, Wang Yi-hong) Course Objectives: East Asia has been changing rapidly. Taiwan has attained a remarkable development but she has a lot of problems at the same time. In this course, students are requested to design their own research questions and prepare for their fieldwork (interview, observation, and archival research) in Taiwan to understand Taiwan in global settings. All the activities will be designed and arranged by the student’s initiative. Flight tickets and one week stay in Taiwan will be covered by Daikokai (Great Navigation) Program of JSPS, but there might be a selection of the students if more than ten students will apply. Students who want to join this course will be asked to attend the kick-off meeting and explain what he/she wants to do in Taiwan. Some joint class/seminar with National Taiwan University may be provided. One week stay in Taiwan will be conducted in “summer school style.” Of course the participants can stay longer than one week, but the extra expenditure should be covered by themselves. This course will be a pioneering project to be developed as a joint activity with National Taiwan University. Undergraduate students of UT will join us and those who will take this course will be in charge of “using” them and “working” with them in Taiwan. Students are strongly requested to take part in the class ardently. *************************************************************************************************************************** 2011 (1)日中関係の多面的な相貌（春）（経済学研究科） http://web.iss.u-tokyo.ac.jp/kyoten/asnet/ (2) 社会学特殊講義（通年）「アジア比較研究のフロンティア Frontier of Comparative Studies of Asian Societies」（人文社会系研究科） 授業の目標・概要 社会学研究を取り巻く環境は、この10年ほどの間に急速に変化した。多くのデータベースが蓄積され、一次データを取らなくても十分意味ある知見を引き出すことができるようになった。海外での調査が容易になり、国際的な共同研究、比較研究が多く行われるようになった。これらすべて、グローバリゼーションの進展を密接な関係を持っているが、この授業では、こうした事情を踏まえ、参加者独自の問題意識に基づく社会学研究の地平を切り開くことを目的としている。 既存の理論や研究動向の批判的な検討、アジアバロメーターといった大規模データセットを利用した独創的な比較分析、研究の深化のための英語での報告など、授業への参加者は多くの作業を要求されることになる。 その成果は、JSPSアジアアフリカ学術形成事業「アジア比較社会研究のフロンティア」(http://ricas.ioc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/aasplatform/main.html)の事業の一環としての国際ワークショップで報告されることになる。報告予定者は、旅費などが同事業の予算から充当されることになる。 Environments surrounding sociological studies have drastically changed during this decade. A variety of dataset has been accumulated which enabled young researchers to draw meaningful research findings without collecting first-hand data. Conducting fieldwork in foreign countries became easier and a lot of international collaborations and comparative studies have come to be launched by some researchers. These changes are closely related to “globalization of sociological researches.” Based on such recognition, this course aims to encourage young sociologists’ challenging attempts to pioneer the horizon of comparative sociological studies of Asian societies. Every participant is requested to make critical overview of the existing literature, present unique research plan, and conduct pioneering comparative analysis by using large-scale dataset named AsiaBarometer in this course. Research findings will be presented at an international workshop hosted by JSPS Asia-Africa Science Platform Program “Frontier of Comparative Study of Asian Societies” (http://ricas.ioc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/aasplatform/mainen.html). Participants in the workshop will get financial support from the program. 授業の方法 第１期は文献レビューが中心になるが、参加者の文献購読と報告が主な活動内容となる。 第２期はデータ分析が主な作業内容となり、量的・質的データの処理を中心に行う。７月11日、12日のアジアバロメーターキックオフ会（東洋文化研究所で実施）には必ず参加のこと。 第３・４期は参加者が作成した英語草稿の批判的検討、及び英語での口頭発表の技術習得が中心となる。 In the first stage, participants are requested to conduct literature review and make presentation of the research plan. In the second stage, statistical as well as qualitative analysis will be conducted by the participants. On 11th and 12th of July, participants are requested to take part in the kick-off meeting for AsiaBarometer Workshop which will be held in the Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia. In the third and fourth stages, participants will prepare for their presentation at the international workshop which will probably be held in National University of Singapore. Teaching Methods: Participants will prepare for their oral presentation at the international workshop which will probably be held in Institute of Sociology at Academia Sinica on 17th of December. *************************************************************************************************************************** 2010 (1)アジア経済（春）「日中関係の多面的な相貌」(経済学研究科） http://web.iss.u-tokyo.ac.jp/kyoten/asnet/94/ (2)全学自由研究ゼミナール(秋)「日本とアジアを繋ぐ」（駒場） 授業の目標・概要 団塊の世代が現在、大量に労働市場から退出しつつあります。彼らの多くは1970年代初頭に労働市場に入り、日系企業の国際化・グローバル化を、最初は端役として、最後は主役として支えてきました。またその前の世代は、すでに年金生活に入っていますが、彼らこそ戦後の対日イメージが悪い中で、アジアとのビジネス関係を作り上げてきた第一世代というべき人たちです。 彼らのアジアとの付き合いを聞き出し、これからの世代のために何か有益なメッセージを残すことはできないか――この授業は、このような動機から生まれました。戦争経験者の声を残さないといけないと感じている研究者やジャーナリストと似た問題意識、といってよいかもしれません。 担当教員には、１９９３年から２００１年まで、アジア、とりわけ中国に進出した日系企業で駐在経験を持つ日本人ビジネスマンへのインタビューを行い、合計200名を超える日本人ビジネスマンの方々から、アジアでの駐在経験やご苦労について伺った経験があります。その成果は、『証言・日中合弁』（1998年）や『日本企業アジアへ』（2001年）などとしてまとめられてきましたが、知りうる範囲でも、調査にご協力いただいた方の中で数名が鬼籍に入られています。 この授業では、まずは従来の研究成果を知ってもらい、インタビュー記録を読みながら、調査のイメージをふくらまします。そして参加者自身がインタビューのターゲットを定め、複数のインタビューをこなすことで、みずからの知見を論文にすることを目標とします。 ビジネスを通じて日本とアジアを結びつけてきた人たちの生の声を聞き、これを素材に研究を進める。こうした作業を通じて、日本とアジアの関係を知り、日系企業の海外展開の特徴を知るとともに、インタビューを行う際の注意点から論文作成の方法、プロジェクトの進め方に至るまで、多くのことを学んでもらいたいと思っています。 授業の方法 まずは担当教員が行ってきた調査の概略（方法、目的、過程、結果など）を報告し、参加者全員がこのプロジェクトの概略を把握します。また、インタビューを行う際の基本的なリタラシー（アポの取り方、メモの取り方、トランスクリプトの作成方法、トランスクリンプトの利用の仕方など）を学び、インタビュー記録を読み解く中で、参加者独自の調査イメージを作ってもらいます。 こうした作業を通じて、参加者がインタビュー記録をもとに論文を作成していく方法を習得していきます。同時に、報告と討論を通じて、研究の面白さを体得してもらいます。 (3)学術俯瞰講義「社会学」（秋）「常識を抉る手法としての比較：現代中国を眺めな がら」（駒場） 関連URL http://www.gfk.c.u-tokyo.ac.jp/archives/ac2010WinterS.html (4) 社会学特殊講義（通年）「グローバリゼーションの社会学 Sociology of Globalization : Theories, Researches, and Practices」（人文社会系研究科） 授業の目標・概要 社会学研究を取り巻く環境は、この10年ほどの間に急速に変化した。多くのデータベースが蓄積され、一次データを取らなくても十分意味ある知見を引き出すことができるようになった。海外での調査が容易になり、国際的な共同研究、比較研究が多く行われるようになった。研究の深化のために、国内以上に海外に目を向ける必要が出てきた。社会現象そのものが国際的な展開を見せており、新しい視点に基づく調査デザインが求められるようになってきている。これらすべて、グローバリゼーションの進展を密接な関係を持っているが、この授業では、こうした事情を踏まえ、参加者独自の問題意識に基づく社会学研究の地平を切り開くことを目的としている。既存の理論や研究動向の批判的な検討、データアーカイブを利用した独創的な（比較）分析、研究の深化のための英語での報告など、授業への参加者は多くの作業を要求されることになるが、これもグローバリゼーションの社会学の具体的な実践だと理解されたい。 授業の方法 第１期は文献レビューが中心になるが、参加者の文献購読と報告が主な活動内容となる。 第２期はデータ分析が主な作業内容となり、量的・質的データの処理を中心に行う。 第３期は参加者が作成した英語草稿の批判的検討、及び英語での口頭発表の技術習得が中心となる。 (5) ITASIA301/302 (Autumn) “Introduction to Social Research” (GSII) *************************************************************************************************************************** 2009 (1) 全学自由研究ゼミナール(秋)「中国社会はどこへ行くか」（駒場） 授業の目標・概要 中国が改革・開放に舵を切って、30年以上の月日がたちました。この間、紆余曲折はあったものの、驚異的な経済成長を遂げ、現在ではＧＮＰ世界第二位に躍り出ようとしています。こうした成功の陰で、多くの社会問題が生じ、中国社会は多くの困難を抱えています。 この授業では、中国社会の変化をテーマに据え、参加者がみずからの関心で中国社会を捉える力を身につけることを目的とします。適宜、外部講師を呼んでお話を聞くなど、工夫を凝らして授業を進めていきます。意欲ある諸君の参加を期待します。 ※履修人数を10名に制限する。 ※本郷キャンパス 東洋文化研究所2階第3会議室（206室）にて開講する。 授業の方法 最初の３回ほどは、教員の方がレジュメを作って話をします。次の５回（４～８回）は、教員が執筆・編集した本の輪読。報告予定者は、手際よく論点をまとめ、問題点を整理した上で報告に臨むことが求められます。９回目以降は、参加者がみずからの問題関心から文献にあたり、時に調査をするなどして、中国社会の変化を捉える作業に従事してもらいます。前半が基礎、後半が応用、ということになるでしょう。 (2) ITASIA301/302 (Autumn) “Introduction to Social Research” (GSII)
